Dear donors

It has been more than a year since we planted our last saplings with Eden Projects in Madagascar. Since then, we have been communicating with Eden Projects (now Eden People+ Planet), who has shifted strategy: They will no longer be planting mangroves in Madagascar. We are of course saddened by this development, but fortunately we have reconnected with the original team behind the Grow For It plantings in Madagascar with Eden, Debbie, Steve and Jamie.

Since 2007, Jamie has been the key field leader, knowing all the workings of planting trees in Madagascar. Steve, Eden’s founder and CEO from 2005 – 2022 along with Debbie, the Development Director, ensured the well being of the global administration. Eden ultimately increased its planting capacity to an average of over one million trees planted per day operating within 12 project nations. This achievement is unique in the tree planting world, and widely regarded as one of the biggest successes in a difficult sector.

The local branch of the Eden Madagascar company Jamie founded is called Red Island Restoration (link), while the new global administration is called Accelerated Restoration Collaborative, or ARC (link).

We have agreed with Jamie that they will tend to our already planted trees for the next few years, and should you want to ask about your trees on our three sites Ankazomenavony – Antsaboka, Antsanitia Mangrove 1, and Antsanitia Mangrove 2 – we will reach out to Jamie for an update.

The latest updates, including CloseOut-Reports for Antsaboka, Antsanitia Mangrove 2, and Antsanitia Mangrove 1 here:

Also, going forward, we can no longer recommend the new Eden People + Planet as planting partner.  However, we recommend all new donors to directly reach out to ARC as the new go-to for mangrove plantings, and a LOT more. Learning from past experince, ARC is re-engineering the tree-planting strategy. You can read more on the ARC web site (link). The experienced team is kicking off with a flying start and have already secured more than 13 corporate donors in the first few months of business.

So, while we are sorry to no longer be actively participating in Madagascar, we are very happy to be able to direct you to planting with the very successful original team behind Eden, which is now starting up as ARC.

As we’ve stated in many news updates about Madagascar – mangroves are the way to go for climate, local environment, fisheries and local population. Please continue to support ARC!

Best Regards

Jens and Peter
